Shared Goals & Action Plans

Goal Setting

  • Goal setting is a collaborative process in which the teacher and coach select and write goals based on identified needs.

  • Goals should be specific, observable, and achievable within a defined time frame.

  • The most effective goals are those that focus on a clear change in a teaching practice. Teaching practices describe the actions and behaviors of teachers, including the way a teacher interacts with children and how they prepare an environment to support optimal development.

  • Use an action plan form to break down the goal into smaller steps, determine resources and materials and set a timeline.
